May in the Garden
May is a beautiful month to enjoy the garden and the warming weather. Lots of plants and flowers will be putting on a show this month. The soil has warmed up and the days are longer. It is a great time to continue working at weeding, pruning and mowing to keep on top of the rapid growth that takes place in May.
Jobs we will be working on this month:
Keeping on top of fast growing and spreading weeds
Watering and feeding container plants
Pruning of plants including Pyracanthus, Cistus, Silver wattle, Callistemon, Hibiscus, Lonicera (evergreen) Pentstemon, Phlomis, Sage and Santolina
Planting out planting schemes
Mowing and caring for lawns
Star Plants:
Geums, Chosiya, Lilac, Aqualigea, Solomon’s Seal, Bearded Iris
Sissinghurst Gardens
Ru and Liza visited Sissinghurst Gardens this weekend. It is a beautiful garden, full of inspiration. We love the formal gardens. The foliage in the white garden was a patricular highlight at this time of year before the flowers have appeared. The various shades of green, textures and form were in full focus. Outside the structured planting schemes with dense planting is a tranquil orchard. Providing a perfect breathing space after the richness of the walled gardens.
