July in the Garden

Month of storms and gorgeous blue;

July is here, it is now high summer. The spring freshness has gone, replaced by a lushness and a richness of colour. The garden is now in full bloom now, full of texture and pure volume. As gardeners our days are warm and very busy, there are lots of tasks to complete to keep your garden’s beautiful display at their finest.

Jobs we will be completing this month in your gardens: 

• Weeds grow at rapid rates at this time of year so we will be continuing to tackle these

• Mowing and edge trimming

• Shearing topiary and shaped hedges and trees

• Dead heading finished flowers and roses

• Pruning of earlier flowering shrubs including Weigela, Rock rose and Philadelphus once they have finished flowering 

• Tidying up finished spring flowers 

• Pruning wisterias and rambling roses

Star Plans to look out for this month:

Phlox - beautiful and long lived perennial that really fills out a herbaceous border 

Salvias -  the delicate two lipped flowers of the salvia creates a gorgeous pop of colour and has long lasting flowers from July - September 

Achillea - bold flat heads of these flowers create a wonderful soft meadow look in a boarder, flowering from June - September 

Cosmos - a classic garden annual which produces vases of flowers throughout the summer to enjoy both in the garden and in the home
